Review & Release Blitz ~ Bastards & Whiskey by Alta Hensley
Heather' s Review ~ GR Link
B&W is my first Alta Hensley book and I'm positive that I'll be back for more... especially if it takes place at Spiked Roses. ~ Heather, White Hot Reads
B&W started off with a BANG for me. I loved the description that the author used when describing Marie St. Clare's home. It really gave me the feel of NOLA and since that town holds a special place in my heart, it was exactly what I needed.
B&W is a border line dark book for me. It skates the edge of wanting to go there but not falling off the cliff into the darkness.
Spiked Roses is a mens club with a history. The Tasting Room is the playground at Spiked Roses where the richest of the rich go to play with no questions asked - only contracts signed. What happens after the contracts are signed --- are between the two individuals and dictated on the piece of paper that both parties agree to.
This is where I hoped the real darkness came... The author set us up to delve into the minds and peculiarities of the richest, most insane and dangerous men in NOLA. But as I continued reading, I found myself wanting more... wanting her to go deeper in to the psyche's of the characters.
This is the kind of book that I felt would have been better off as a duet or a trilogy strictly due to the subject matter. There were so many layers of possibility that hit the highlights only and I wanted so much more.
However -- as I said above, I WANT MORE!
I want more of Kenneth and Anita.
I want more of the Spiked Roses owners...
I want more of the members.
I want more of the employees.
I want more darkness and danger.
and by god, I want more Tennessee!
