Staci Hart has easily become a first pick favorite author for me. The way she writes these beautifully flawed characters, tears them apart further and then has them heal and find happiness is remarkable.
"They call her boy crazy... like that was a bad thing"
"You come with a warning label?.. He Asked ; "No, I come with you face between my legs. (FAVORITE LINE)
Penny had made me laugh so much through this entire story, she is my spirit whisperer and soul mate. Penny and her girl squad will make you so happy with their sex banter.
So, you see Penny doesn't date... at all. She has hookups; but on a hot day in June this remarkable character crosses paths with Bodie. Her life will change paths and you get to see their guarded girl evolve into so much more... of everything. He helps her become more, he is funny, smart and sexy.
I really loved this story yet again from Staci Hart.
Misty's 5 Bear Trap Stars Review
Every once in awhile you read a book by a new to you author and wonder where has this person been all my life?! That person for me is Staci Hart. I read A Thousand Letters and wanted to read all the books. Someday I will get to them all.
But in the meantime let's talk about Bad Penny. This book is brilliant. It was refreshing to see a heroine so confident in herself. She's the player. The girl the hero has to make see that being in love is not quite as scary as one imagines. But man does he got his work cut out for him. Penny is not about relationships. Even when it's staring her right in the face.
I don't know if there is anything I can say that gives Bodie justice. He's exactly the kind of guy we all dream about. He's kind, compassionate, funny, smart and of course so incredibly hot. He knows exactly what Penny needs and gives it to her in his own way that it takes Penny awhile to realize just how special he is. Match made in Heaven? Quite possibly but not without a little Hell in there to shake things up a bit.
And those secondary characters! Brilliant and such and interracial part of the story that it would not be the story it is without them. I am hoping beyond anything we get some more of these people!
Bad Penny is the perfect balance of humor, angst, conflict, and romance. And when the next book by Mrs. Hart comes out you can bet your money I'll lay down anything to read it as soon as it hits the stores.
BODIEShe glanced behind me, twiddling her fingers, presumably at Jude and Phil. “So, you’re a twin, huh?”
I nodded and took a sip of my Maker’s as “Rock the Casbah” kicked off, and everyone around us started bouncing and dancing. “Since birth.”
She laughed. “What a win for the universe that there would be two of you.”
“Double your pleasure, double your fun.”
That caught her off guard, and her bottom lip slipped between her teeth as a flush rose on her cheeks.
Just like that, I had one objective, and it began and ended with her lips.
“Although I should tell you now,” I stepped closer, slipping into her space, and her eyes widened, pupils dilating as she leaned into me, “I don’t like to share.”
The tip of her pink tongue darted out to wet her lips, and her eyes were locked onto my mouth.
“Are you thinking about kissing me?” I asked.
She shook her head, though her eyes didn’t stray. “No, I’m thinking about what your dick looks like.”
I laughed from way down deep in my belly, shocked in the best way and turned on in the worst. And as the ocean of people waved around us, she rose up on her tiptoes, grabbed a handful of my T-shirt, and pulled.
I caught the smallest breath — a surprised, satisfied gasp — just before our lips met, and fireworks exploded in my brain. The kiss wasn’t soft or sweet; it was strong and determined, those red, red lips pressing against mine, opening to let me into her hot mouth, her tongue finding mine like she’d been looking for it her whole life.
The surprise left me as quickly as it had hit, and I leaned into her, my free arm winding around her back to press her body against mine. There wasn’t an inch of space between us, and all the while, our mouths worked each other’s in a long dance that left my heart chugging like a freight train in my chest.
She pulled away, her lips swollen and eyes lust-drunk as they met mine and held them while she kicked back her drink and grabbed my hand.
“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” she said.
And I smirked, breathless. “Your place or mine?”
About Staci Hart
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey.
From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
