Sooooo... I found Jessica Hawkins because of the Slip of the Tongue cover. Straight up. Since then she's become one of my must read authors. I feel like I'd read her grocery list if she wrote it for me. Because her words.... they captivate my heart and soul! There isn't a way for me to express how I fall into and become part of her worlds.

It wasn't exactly a happy ending, but it was something.
It was all I had.
Everything else was mistakes and broken relationships and loss.

^^^^ These are her words. Words that resonated with me in so many ways and on so many levels.

Manning Sutter is special. He has dreams and desires and he's working hard towards them.
Lake Kaplan is a sixteen year old, who spends her days and nights studying.
Tiffany Kaplan is Lake's narcissistic sister who believes everything should revolve around her.

This is their story. The story of a high school girls first love and how one moment can change life in an instant.

Jessica makes a topic that many see as taboo --- intriguing. She handles the details with such delicacy that I found myself rooting for the underdog, even though I knew it was wrong. I just couldn't help myself.

Then she took me to the edge of the cliff and dangled me off. I'm currently suspended in mid air, waiting for what happens next. Because that's what she does. She doesn't make it easy and I love each and every minute of it.

Something in the Way is a must read for 2017. It's simple yet complex and full of danger and desire. ~  Give.Me.MOREEEEE!!!

I just finished this book last night.... I'm usually o.k. with a cliffhanger.... but this one gave me a book hangover. The Characters are beautifully written and complex, you have the Alpha Male, the Beautiful Girl and the Villain Sister. We start with Lake (16yo) meeting Manning (Adult), she falls for him almost immediately. Then here comes her sister who I feel always wants what Lake has, including Manning. Friendships are made and jealousy causes Manning's life to change. I loved this story and cannot wait for the next two in the series. Top Series Read for 2017!!

WOW!! Just wow. Words can’t even begin to describe this book and how it made me feel when I was done reading it. It brought me back to my 16 year old self when the world was so innocent through those eyes. Lake sees the world and people through rose colored glasses until the older sexy Manning comes into her line of sight and makes herself wonder about things.  As always, there is the older sister who sees him too and decides that she wants him. Lake and Manning have an unusual friendship that has the potential to be more but Manning being the responsible adult won’t let it go there. As their friendship blossoms, so do the feelings. I was not expecting the ending and am dying over here for book 2 now. This will be one of my top reads this year!!!

BLURB:

IT WAS A HOT SUMMER DAY WHEN I MET HIM ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE NEXT TO MY PARENTS’ HOUSE. UNDER THE SWEAT AND DIRT, MANNING SUTTER WAS AS HANDSOME AS THE SUN WAS BRIGHT. HE WAS OLDER, DARKER, EXPERIENCED. I WORE A SMILEY-FACE T-SHIRT AND HAD NEVER EVEN BEEN KISSED. YET WE SAW SOMETHING IN EACH OTHER THAT WOULD LINK US IN WAYS THAT COULDN’T BE BROKEN...NO MATTER HOW HARD WE TRIED.

I LOVED MANNING BEFORE I KNEW THE MEANING OF THE WORD. I WAS TOO YOUNG, HE SAID. I WOULD WAIT. THROUGH ALL THE CAREFULLY-CHOSEN WORDS HIDING WHAT WE KNEW TO BE TRUE, THROUGH HIS STRUGGLE TO KEEP ME INNOCENT, AND THROUGH INFINITELY-STARRY NIGHTS—I WOULD WAIT. BUT I’D LEARN THAT LIFE ISN’T ALWAYS FAIR. THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU ACHIEVE, NONE OF IT MATTERS IF YOU SUFFER THE HEARTBREAK THAT COMES WITH FALLING FOR SOMEONE YOU CAN NEVER HAVE. BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I SAW MANNING FIRST, THAT DIDN’T MATTER. MY OLDER SISTER SAW HIM NEXT.
