Man. What a roller coaster of a book. And I mean that in the BEST way. From swoony moments, to the funny ones then right down to the heart wrenching ones this book pulls at every emotion I think humans can feel. I love those kinds of books!

Mae is the perfect quirky, sunshine to Holden's broody, cloudy life. They were meant for each other but it takes awhile for us to realize that. I love that Amie took things slow with these two. The slow burn was perfect with the chemistry between these characters. Chemistry that oozed off the pages from the first page, even when Mae was telling Holden what for. And when that dimple finally makes it's appearance, I was in agreement with Mae, Holden needed to keep it hidden because it was only fair.

A Steel Heart touches on some very serious subjects in both Mae and Holden's life but the PTSD that Holden suffers from is at the forefront of this story. We see a side of him that we want to hate but can't because we know he can't help it. That he needs help. It shines light on this very important thing that so many of our veterans suffer from and how it not only affects them but those they love.

This isn't your run of the mill love story. It's an epic love story. Mae and Holden were meant to be together and have shown us that when you don't give up on something so right, no matter how wrong it can go, that just maybe you'll get your Truly, Madly, Deeply love too.

Five seconds.

A deafening blast. Pain. Silence.

That was all it took for an IED to end my life as I knew it. The man I was shattered in a hard wave of sound and debris that rained down on me like death itself.

And six months later, after waking up to an inescapable hell, I found myself wishing that death had found me.

Until her.

Miranda Jacobs swept into my life like a cool breeze on a smoldering day.

With her smart mouth and her ridiculous jokes, she brought me back to life one minute at a time.

Turned out time wasn’t on our side.

Five seconds.

Screams. Twisted metal. Silence.

And I’d lost it all again—only this time, I had no one to blame but myself.
